Budget Cuts for Toronto Police

It would be useful to have a clear-headed, candid and evidence-based discussion on the "adequacy and effectiveness" of the current complement (both uniform and civilian) within the Toronto Police Service. The department has gone through this type of exercise before and it never really gains any traction due to police union pressure and lobbying, a lack of will on the part of senior police executives and an inability on the part of civilian governing authorities to press the police to clearly justify the size of their authorized strength. In the UK and the US police departments are doing much more to grapple with the economic realities. Sadly, Canada will continue to subsidize huge police budgets largely because we're unable to insist on getting real value for money from our police services.
