Mergers of Police Departments

In the 1970s, in Ontario, there was an intensive period of regionalization that impacted smaller police services. Out of this process came Halton, Waterloo, Greater Sudbury, Peel, Durham, York and other regional departments. With the looming, and lingering, economic constraints now upon us it makes sense to consider further mergers, amalgamations and rationalizations of existing police services.

The United States is engaged in some form of this activity and it warrants close scrutiny; maybe even emulation:
