Recently, it came to light that a USB memory stick containing sensitive details of a police investigation had been stolen from the home of an officer with the Greater Manchester Police:
Stolen Police USB
This may be an isolated event and apparently well beyond the Canadian shores. However, it's useful to meditate on this occurence insofar as it could happen anywhere, anytime. With the upside of easy-to-use technology, comes the downside of ease of access, including theft. When police officers take their work home with them it may be a good thing if they're advancing the cause of justice. But it's a significant liability when routine security precautions are not observed in instances such as this one in the UK.
When convenience lends itself to criminal activity, it calls for extremely conscious, and conscientious, risk management.
