Salary Levels for Toronto Police Members

As part of the ongoing consideration of the Toronto Police Service budget, it's useful, instructive and even alarming to review the 2010 Public Sector Disclosure document which is available through the Toronto Police Services Board's website (under 'Publications'):

In some detail it's possible to see how many police officers, and civilian members, make in excess of $100K a year. And while it may be argued that these are highly valued employees within the hierarchy of the department, and provide a beneficial public service to the citizens of Toronto, it must be questioned as to whether or not public safety requires this level of expense to promote community wellness.

As the economy continues to throw up challenges for the taxpayer it may well be appropriate to refocus, reframe and rethink our existing levels of policing to discern if there are possible alternatives to this very rich service.
